• What in the world?? • #HouseBillNumber1203 states that, “Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a driver of a motor vehicle who unintentionally causes injury or death to an individual obstructing vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway, is NOT #guilty of an offense.” “It’s shocking to see legislation that allows for people to literally be #killed for exercising their #right to #protest in a public space,” said Tara #Houska, who also serves as the national campaigns director for Honor the #Earth, an #Indigenous-focused #environmental nonprofit. Rep. Keith #Kempenich (R-Bowman), one of the bill’s co-sponsors, told the Bismarck Tribune on Wednesday, “The roads are not there for the #protesters. They’re intentionally putting themselves in danger.” “It’s shifting the burden of proof from the motor vehicle driver to the pedestrian,” Kempenich said. Houska also criticized another bill in the legislative lineup that would require NorthDakota’s attorney general to sue the federal #government to recoup some of the cost of policing the months-long DAPL protests. “These bills are meant to #criminalize the protests with no real concern for #constitutional #law,” she said. Allison Renville, an #activist from the #Lakota nation, saw the bills as an insult to sovereign #NativeAmerican communities, and expressed concern about the recent naming of Republican Sen. John Hoeven, a supporter of the #DAPL pipeline and fossil fuel industry, as chairman of the #U.S. #Senate Committee on Indian Affairs. “This is a really scary time for #Indian Country,” Renville told NBC News. “To have such an avid supporter of the oil industry who has consistently stated his support for extractive industry projects on #Native lands named to the position as chairman is akin to stepping on our #sovereignty.” #StandWithStandingRock #DefendTheSacred #WeveSeenThisBefore #BLM #WaterProtectors #NoDAPL

Comment from Ruben:

So last year, the #church I attend, #Hillsong received some backlash because of a dance routine meant to celebrate our lady sisters and our beautiful city, #NYC . When we came to church on Sunday, there were angry #protesters outside of the venue in #timessquare. But whereas as different person would've responded with the same bitter poison to the protesters, my friend here, Jerry took it upon himself to face them, to #welcome them with a bright #smile and a courtesy they never thought they'd receive. Rather than running from them, he met them eye to eye, and assured them, through his benevolent #spirit, that they are also our brothers and are welcome to the house of God. He not only cleansed the anger of the picketers, he also provided a welcoming and safe light for everyone else to go into church. The picketers had been there all day, but it wasn't until Jerry came out, that they saw that their anger was misguided, and its harsh freeze evaporated in the warm our #heart of my friend. And yet, the interesting part is that this type of #leadership and magnificent kindness is not something you witness once from Jeremiah, but rather, it is something that he embodies every day. He's one of the pillars that sustains the beauty of this world. #Brother in #Christ showing love to our #city
