Lest We Forget • In 2014, artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper created a major art installation titled ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’. This installation included 888,246 ceramic poppies that were placed in the moat of The Tower of London to represent each British military fatality during the First World War. lestweforget remembranceday thepowerofcraft

You may have seen these elegant ladies by Carolyn DiPasquale in a previous post; here are the latest version of her raku-fired sculptures. Incorporating the bronze detail to these pieces adds another dimension of mastery in the craft. Here’s glass artist Hope Forstenzer working at @terminalcityglass In her current exhibition at the CCBC Gallery Hope explores our concept of our selves versus our physical bodies, and how they are often at odds, and how we see our moods, beliefs, and our likes and dislikes as “us,” when we are far more complex than we realize. Using multiple methods of working with glass as a malleable material — blown glass pieces combined with methods use for stained glass, images exposed directly onto glass and/or sandblasted into it — this exhibition asks us to look closer at the baggage we carry, and at the stories we tell ourselves about who we are. We are all transparent. We are all opaque. We are all not sure of who we are, and when we see that we’re not alone in that, we can learn more about how we’re human. It's Membership Monday! Today we are featuring these under the sea necklaces from @ladydragonglassworks. Vanessa’s inspirations for her glasswork are derived from the natural environment. Her pieces are created by melting glass rods in an open flame and manipulating the molten glass using different tools, gravity, and temperature control. ⠀ ⠀ Interested in exploring more glass work by local BC artists?
