After a report from a member of the public, Bundaberg-based QBFP officers seized two monofilament nets and 15 tilapia from the Sandy Hook area of the Burnett River, including one that was being cooked on a barbecue. Both nets were seized and offenders were fined $3132. Tilapia is a restricted noxious fish under the Biosecurity Act 2014 and must be euthanised upon capture and disposed of responsibly, either buried a suitable distance from the waterway where it was caught, or placed in a rubbish bin away from the water. Tilapia is not permitted to be eaten, kept, given away, sold or released into the environment. #fishing #queenslandfishing #bundaberg #bundabergfishing #biosecurityqld

A recent patrol at St George has netted a fisher a $652 on the spot fine for using a fish trap. QBFP managed to remove the trap before it had caught anything. No matter their size, fish traps are unlawful. Report fish trap sightings to Fishwatch on 1800 017 116
